BRIDGES AND CANOPY WALKS
What can we say? We love building bridges and traveling through forest canopies! The Beanstalk Builders are still kids at heart.
When founder Mike Fischesser was a young kid in the 1950s, he and his friends would lash long logs from tree to tree in the forest canopy and walk along them with old garden hoses as safety hand-lines, of course. Beanstalk still builds that same design, but with a few more safety considerations and a bit more skill.
When Hurricane Frances and Ivan hit North Carolina in sequence in September 2004, Lees McRae College lost their steel pedestrian footbridge. They immediately called Beanstalk Builders and made an emergency request, “how fast can you build us a new bridge?” The result was the beautiful Elk River footbridge that leaps over the spectacular river in a series of 30’ spans, minimally contacting the riverbed with no vegetation removed.
One of our favorite designs is to build suspension bridges through the forest canopy on either trees or poles connecting to tree houses along the way, creating a really cool experience for people of all abilities.
